April 2011 President's Message
What a beautiful day in Paradise, or so the Chambers tell us. Since we have lived here almost 29 years, I tend to agree.
Our Spring Fling was a wonderful event. I was in Tallahassee for Hospital Lobby Days . . . so didn’t see the fashions nor was I able to see the guys steal the show. But a little bird told me. It was a very successful day, not only monetarily but also we gained a few new members, which is always a plus.
This month Charlie Green, our Clerk of Courts, will be the speaker. I’ve heard that he is not running for re-election next year so he probably won’t be on the speaking circuit for long. Do plan on joining us to hear Charlie. He always entertains and has much to share.
Was somewhat surprised to hear that Connie Mack is not running for the Senate seat held by Bill Nelson. He did say recently that he loves his job in Congress and would be hesitant to leave. His aunt, Mary McGillicuddy, is the Lee Memorial in-house at-torney. With Jim Humphrey, our Board attorney, I believe we and the citizens of Lee County are in good hands.
As a last point, I’m very concerned about the Tea Party splitting the vote, so on Wednesday I will have an opportunity to ask if they will field a candidate if they are unhappy with the Republican Presidential nominee. I’ll keep you informed.
Hope to see everyone on April 19. In May we will have a legislative update and then break for the summer. If you have thoughts you would like to share, please contact me at 549-5629 or at astout34@comcast.net. I’ll enjoy hearing from you.
Best,
Marilyn Stout
