                                          March 2011 President's Message

It’s the first of March already . . . and in just two weeks we will ―Enjoy the Day‖ with our annual Spring Fling. Belk’s is providing the fashions, plus we probably have 50 or 60 silent auction items or more. Have some lovely baby things for moms or grandmoms to bid on. Also, the money hat and Chanel basket are raffle goodies. I saw a ―so-different‖ purse I want to bid on . . . plus some really neat jewelry and ―to-die-for‖ items. Tina has sold more than 130 tickets and I believe the room only holds 145. So, get your ticket soon. Cut-off is Thursday, March 10, and you will absolutely hate missing this very special day. The money we make goes toward covering lunches next year as we hold forums. Each attendee is asked to write a check to their favorite candidate, and the candidates love it—so do we.

With redistricting next year, we won’t know what the districts will look like until probably just before filing. We’ll have many local races: Districts 3 and 5, County Commis-sion; all Constitutionals—Sheriff, Tax Collector, Supervisor of Elections, Clerk of Courts, and Property Appraiser; two School Board seats; 4 State House; 3 State Senate; 1 House and 1 Senate . . . and our next President! We have many good candidates. Let’s hope they remem-ber the 11th Commandment: Thou shalt not say unkind things about a fellow Republican.

This morning I attended a Prayer Breakfast at the Hyatt-Coconut Point. There were 900 registered to attend and it really was worth getting up at 4:30 a.m. to attend. Talk about starting a day off right . . . Jim Daly, President of Focus on the Family, overcame just about every adversity one can think of. It was awe-inspiring.

Just read a Presidential straw poll conducted by Townhall.com. The order was Palin, Paul, Romney, Gingrich. They conduct each month. Go on line and vote for your favorite candidate. It might make a difference.

Our club continues to grow. New regular members as of Feb. 28 include Barbara Braun, Dale D’Antonio, Nancy Gardner, Carol Graver, Chelly Joseph, Connie McCormick, Claudia Silverman, Mary Ann Webb, and Pat Winter. Associate members include Michel Doherty, Louise Dowd, Jeanne Dozier, Art Hamel, Ray Judah, Cindy Lignelli, Stella Mur-doch, Jenna Persons, Ray Rodrigues, Steve Russell, Mike Scott, Domenic Scricca, Kathy Smith, and Tony Stout.

In April we will have our Clerk of Courts, Charlie Green, as our speaker; but more on that meeting next month. For now, have a fun and ―Enjoyable‖ day at our Spring Fling!

FGCU is presenting Laura W. Bush, First Lady of the United States (2001-2009) as the President’s Lecture Series speaker on April 6 at 5:30 p.m. Her topic will be ―Unleashing Human Potential through Education.‖ Tickets to the general public are FREE, beginning Sat-urday, March 12, between 8-5:30, in person. No orders will be taken via the phone or Inter-net. Limit of two tickets – no exceptions. Distributed on first-come, first-served basis. For info, contact the Alico Arena box office, 590-7145.

                                          Best,

                                          Marilyn Stout
