                                          November 2011 President's Message

Today is another beautiful Fall day. I love having the windows open instead of A/C and look forward to the holidays with our exciting new year just around the corner. In planning our monthly forums, we already have ten contested local races, plus our US Senate race and taking back the White House in 2012.

The Presidential Primary is January 31 and all others are on August 14. We will probably start our forums in April after our Spring Fling fashion show on March 20. This is our one fund raiser for the year and allows us to pay for lunches while attendees write checks to their favorite candidate . . . and there will be many candidates. This year’s theme is "Sing a Song" and will be chaired by our ever-inventive Dot Oestrich. She and our faithful Tina Laurie are the best of the best when it comes to putting together a fashion show/day of bridge.

Sharon Harrington chairs our Nominating Committee, which includes Jody Van Cooney and Dot Oestrich. What a fabulous slate of officers for next year! Gaile Anthony as Presi-dent; Nancy Epple, 1st VP; Claudia Silverman, 2nd VP; Tina Laurie, Treasurer; Paulette McGuire, Asst. Treasurer; Diane Kinser, Recording Secretary; and Claudia Zambor as Cor-responding Secretary. Nominations will also be taken from the floor at our November meeting, with installation in December. Mark your calendar, December 13 instead of the 20th.

Our speaker this month, Tom Scott, Chair of the Lee County School Board, will share the board’s progress and the challenges they face. We will have our three Cypress Lake Mid-dle School student essay winners. Claudia Silverman has been this year’s chair and we look forward to hearing "Why You Should Vote."

Dues are rolling in and our Membership Chair, Elizabeth Nicholson, is doing a great job contacting members. Next year we will have to invest our time in electing the right people to guide our local, state, and national government in turning back to the principles that guided us for over two hundred years. Please join us on November 15 and the third Tues-day of every month. Our programs are educational and often exciting.

                                          Best,

                                          Marilyn Stout
