October 2011 President's Message
We had a stunning 63 in attendance and many new members at our September luncheon. This is usually our slow month! Not only did we have an inspiring speaker, but I also do believe we want to take back the White House next year. That calls for getting involved.
While in Orlando for Presidency V, Elizabeth and I had the opportunity to hear our candidates for President and Senate . . . all of which are better than what is there now. I’m going to look closely at those who can carry the Independent vote. ABO . . . Anybody But Obama and OMG . . . Obama Must Go are the rallying cries. After the holiday season, it will be full speed ahead.
Our October speaker will be County Commission Chair Frank Mann. Frank is a fiscal conservative and a delightful speaker. You won’t want to miss this program!
I’ve been asked to be part of the Americans For Prosperity team. If I accept, they will send me to Washington for training, and I would have the SW Florida area as my district. I’ve been mulling this over for days. They don’t get involved with candidates. They do promote issues. This does sound intriguing but I don’t want to spread myself so thin that I don’t do anything well. That certainly can happen. I will keep you informed as that decision is made.
Please remember that in 2012 we will hold forums and pay for lunches so that the attendees can write a check to a candidate or to Emily’s List to support Federal women candidates. In that vein, we hope to have a highly successful Spring Fling fashion show in March. Mark the date – March 20!
Next month we will have our Barbara Burke Essay Contest winners. The essay title is ― "Why You Should Vote". If we start promoting a love for America and the responsibility for voting in our young, just maybe the impressions we instill now will carry with them when they become adults.
Hope to see you on the 18th. Try to bring a friend. And, remember to pay your dues so that your information can be in our Club Directory (to be printed in January) . . . and your name drawn in our monthly lottery.
Best,
Marilyn Stout Stout
