September 2011 President's Message
Today is Labor Day and where did the summer go! I may be ready to wear something other than sandals and shorts but am not sure I’m ready for the busy holiday season that will be here before we know it.
I’ve heard that many of our members are ready to meet again. With Trey Radel kicking off our first month back, should be a signal of good speakers yet to come. Nancy has lined up a County Commissioner for October, and November is our essay contest so maybe our new Superintendent will be available.
Elizabeth Nicholson and I will head to Orlando later this month for the FFRW Convention and Presidency V. There will be a nationally televised debate with most of those R’s who would like to be the nominee next year in attendance. Then there will be a straw poll by the Presidency V attendees. I have my favorite, but will support whoever runs against President Obama. I would even give up either the House or Senate in trade for a President who loves our country. However, maybe we can take it all.
Now is not the time for complacency. We need to think about a friend, a neighbor, a relative to bring to a meeting, and hopefully they will join. There are 47 FFRW clubs. We are number eight in size with 96 regular members, just two behind Lakeland. Naples is close behind with 84 but I can remember when they were close to 300. Needless to say, I was very surprised. It seems that “other” priorities get in the way. We will start now collecting dues for next year….and have drawings in Oct, Nov, and Dec for a gift certificate… So pay your dues now and maybe be a winner. Also, the member who brings in the most new members, will be a separate winner. As you can see, we will concentrate on club strength and getting out the vote in 2012.
With redistricting, it could be that we will have another Congressional seat. There will be many candidates and many forums. Once again we will cover the cost of luncheons as attendees write a check to a favorite candidate. We are known for this…and the candidates love it.
Look forward to seeing you in September. And, thanks for caring about electing our Republican candidates.
Best,
Marilyn Stout Stout
